School Council

School Council is where we provide information you need, (i.e. re EQAO, upcoming events or how classes are formed), where you can form friendships with other parents, and develop a sense of belonging at your child’s school. Everyone is welcome and you can just show up at our meetings. Please contact Sarah Reid, Principal, at 519-934-2560 ext. 527 for more information.

Overview

The Bluewater District School Board believes that the education of our children is a shared responsibility among school, home and the community. In order to support these partnerships every school has a School Council.

The role of School Councils is to enhance student learning by:
a) acting in an advisory role on issues identified by consensus within the School Council
b) acting in an advisory role on issues identified by the school and/or Board/School Group Council

The following provides an overview of the membership of School Councils:

1. School Councils:
a) seek active representation from parents, staff, students, and the wider community;
b) seek to reflect the needs, uniqueness and diversity of the school community.

2. Members of a School Council shall include, but are not limited to:
- parents of students enrolled in the school;
- community representatives;
- a student (mandatory in secondary schools, in elementary schools, it is at the discretion of the principal);
- the school principal; a teacher;
- a non-teaching staff member.
Parents form the majority of members of School Councils.
