School Community Council is where we provide information you need, (i.e. re EQAO, upcoming events or how classes are formed), where you can form friendships with other parents, and develop a sense of belonging at your child’s school. Overview
The Bluewater District School Board believes that the education of our children is a shared responsibility among school, home and the community. In order to support these partnerships every school has a School Community Council.
The role of School Community Councils is to enhance student learning by:
a) acting in an advisory role on issues identified by consensus within the School Community Council
b) acting in an advisory role on issues identified by the school and/or Board/School Group Council
The following provides an overview of the membership of School Community Councils:
1. School Community Councils:
a) seek active representation from parents, staff, students, and the wider community;
b) seek to reflect the needs, uniqueness and diversity of the school community.
2. Members of a School Community Council shall include, but are not limited to:
- parents of students enrolled in the school;
- community representatives;
- a student (mandatory in secondary schools, in elementary schools, it is at the discretion of the principal);
- the school principal; a teacher;
- a non-teaching staff member.
Parents form the majority of members of School Community Councils.
